GRANDE DUNES RESORT CLUB HONORED AS “2009 NATIONAL GOLF COURSE OF THE YEAR” BY THE NATIONAL GOLF COURSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION (NGCOA)

November 19, 2008, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Representatives from Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management announced today that the Grande Dunes Resort Club was selected as the “2009 National Golf Course of the Year.” Presented annually by the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA), Grande Dunes is the second Myrtle Beach area course to receive the national honor.

The “Course of the Year” Award honors a member that demonstrates four criteria: exceptional quality of the course, exceptional quality of ownership and management, outstanding contribution to its community and significant contribution to the game. The “Course of the Year” Award winners come from NGCOA’s core membership and are model operations to their peers. Each NGCOA chapter selects a “Chapter Course of the Year,” which is then submitted in the running for the “National Course of the Year.” The winner is decided upon at the annual fall meeting of the NGCOA Board of Directors. One recipient each year is chosen by the Board with the award dating back to 2004. Past recipients include Saratoga National Golf Club (New York, 2005); Pebble Beach (Oregon, 2006); The Legends Golf Club (Minnesota, 2007) and Reynolds Plantation (Georgia, 2008).

Grande Dunes competed against 13 other “Chapter Course of the Year” winners including Tustin Ranch Golf Club (California), Barnsley Gardens Resort (Georgia); Juday Creek Golf Course (Indiana); Oakland Hills Country Club (Michigan); Brackett’s Crossing (Minnesota); Cascata Golf Club (Nevada); The Oaks Golf Links (New Hampshire); Colonial Golfers Club (Ohio); Honeybrook Golf Club (Pennsylvania); The Golf Courses of Lawsonia (Wisconsin). Grande Dunes will be honored on February 3rd at the 2009 NGCOA Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Grande Dunes Resort Club and Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management demonstrated their support to the Myrtle Beach area community by helping raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities including The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Conway Medical Center, Victory Junction Gang, Special Olympics and Patriot’s Golf Day. The Grande Dunes Resort Club is also committed to introducing the game to golfers of all ages through their active participation in Play Golf America and The First Tee of Myrtle Beach program.

“This recognition from the NGCOA is a tremendous honor for our shareholders, members, staff and community,” said Bob Swezey, executive vice president for Burroughs & Chapin Golf and Resorts Division. “The Resort Club at Grande Dunes is a spectacular facility with a superb course that is always in great condition. More importantly, it is the enthusiasm and commitment of our staff that really makes the difference. Senior director of Grande Dunes clubs and amenities, Mike Buccerone, PGA general manager, Frank Coughlin. PGA head professional Jason Mitchell and GCSAA superintendent Steve Martin lead an extremely dedicated and talented team of professionals that truly care in providing excellent service and quality products and we are thrilled that their contributions are being recognized by our peers in the industry.”

In September, Grande Dunes became the seventh Grand Strand golf course to win the region’s state chapter award since it was implemented in 1996. To be considered for the “South Carolina Golf Course of the Year” award, a golf course must first win its regional Golf Course Owners Association title and then submit a presentation to the SCGOA Board. After capturing the “Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course of the Year” award in July, Grande Dunes advanced to the state level and competed against golf courses from the Upstate, Midlands, Charleston and Hilton Head regions.

“The Grande Dunes Resort course exemplifies the quality of golf in the Myrtle Beach area,” said George Hilliard, Executive Director of the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association. “The management has played a significant role in developing the course, contributing back to the community, as well as enhancing the game of golf. We congratulate the Grande Dunes Resort Club for the honor they have received and are proud to have them as a member of the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association.”
PINE LAKES CLUBHOUSE SET FOR RETURN TO THE GLORY DAYS OF THE 1920s WITH MARCH 2009 GRAND OPENING

Southern Classic Architectural Style of the Clubhouse to Complement Golf Course’s Return to Robert White’s Original Design

September 22, 2008, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Representatives of Burroughs and Chapin Company, Inc., owners and operators of Pine Lakes Country Club, announced today that the Pine Lakes clubhouse restoration project is on schedule for a March 2009 grand opening. Burroughs & Chapin began an extensive, multi-million dollar project in November 2006 to bring the grandeur and regal stature of the once-great Ocean Forest Hotel to the Pine Lakes golf clubhouse. When the clubhouse opens after 20 months of renovations, the result will be a refurbishment of a Myrtle Beach icon, creating the ideal setting for golfers to relax with a 19th-hole cocktail, as well as host lavish weddings, receptions, birthday celebrations, holiday galas, family reunions and business or social functions.

The clubhouse’s exterior and interior renovation is being handled by Mashburn Construction of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Along with the complete restoration of the original clubhouse, a new 6,000 square foot wing was added to the perimeter of the clubhouse that will contain the golf pro shop, the Robert White Pub, the Grill Kitchen, an outside seating area and the golf cart barn. The Pine Lakes clubhouse will also feature a 30’ x 70’ swimming pool for use by social members and first-time buyers of the newly-created neighborhoods within Pine Lakes.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina-based Knotting Hill Interiors by Kimberly Grigg has designed the interior to showcase Pine Lakes clubhouse’s southern classic architectural style. Grigg and senior designer Heather Pickering have combined the history and tradition of the original Pine Lakes clubhouse with modern design innovations to provide a retreat or sanctuary for Pine Lakes residents and guests.

Guests who enter the Pine Lakes clubhouse through the entry vestibule will notice the warm and rich feeling of the chocolate wood flooring, historical damask wallpaper, oriental rugs, a grand piano and one of the original chandeliers from the Ocean Forest Hotel. Located off the vestibule will be the Library/History Hall where the history and tradition of Pine Lakes will be on display; the Snug Pub, the original meeting place of the Sports Illustrated editors back in 1954; the Azalea and Magnolia ballrooms, which can accommodate up to 200 guests for meetings and weddings; and the former Governor’s Suite, which has been redesigned into the Recreational Wing offering a fitness center, locker rooms, a snack and gathering area and the pool open to Pine Lakes’ social members. Fireplaces are located throughout the clubhouse along with seating areas.

The entire clubhouse will feature harmoniously balanced color schemes of blues and yellows, with punches of red. The Robert White Pub, the Snug Pub and the Library/History Hall will exhibit a traditional golf club feel with more masculine colors and distressed wooden bars. The Azalea and Magnolia ballrooms will be stately and graceful with elegant colors and opulent drapery.
The Pine Lakes clubhouse will be available for weddings beginning May 1, 2009, with a staff experienced in coordinating and managing a premier event from start to finish. Just behind the clubhouse will be the Garden at Pine Lakes, a private area with a veranda that will be used for weddings and events. The Garden offers a private area with full-catering services on premises for all events. The newly-created Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame, which will debut in March 2009, will be situated in Pine Lake’s new Hall of Fame Garden adjacent to the clubhouse. The Hall of Fame will honor the men and women who have played significant roles in all aspects of the Myrtle Beach area golf industry with each inductee memorialized in the garden surrounding the Sports Illustrated monument that memorializes the birthplace of the magazine at Pine Lakes in 1954.

“When I first met with Pine Lakes vice president/senior project manager Tom Fous about his visions for the Pine Lakes clubhouse,” recalled Grigg, owner and principal designer of Knotting Hill Interiors by Kimberly Grigg. “We both looked for Dorothy Draper - ‘Great Gatsby-esque’ style inspiration for this project. Heather and I are taking the Pine Lakes clubhouse back to its roots to emulate the elegant East Coast mansions of that time period.”

“When it opens next March, the Pine Lakes clubhouse will take residents and guests back to the Jazz and Great Gatsby era when the club was the place to gather in Myrtle Beach” said Tom Fous, vice president/senior project manager. “We are excited by the progress that Mashburn Construction has made with the building exterior and with the design concepts created by Knotting Hill Interiors by Kimberly Grigg.”

About Pine Lakes Country Club
Pine Lakes Country Club, Myrtle Beach’s first golf resort, has served as the epitome of the traditional golf resort since opening in 1927 as the Ocean Forest Golf Club. Designed by St. Andrews, Scotland native Robert White, Pine Lakes put Myrtle Beach on the map as the destination of choice for the country’s wealthiest families. Owned and operated by Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc., Pine Lakes is in the midst of an extensive 20-month, multi-million dollar restoration project that will transform the course and clubhouse back to the status enjoyed in earlier days. The restoration of the course will be directed by well-known golf course architect

Craig Schreiner who is preserving many of the historical golf corridors that made Pine Lakes famous throughout the years. Pine Lakes Country Club will also serve as the home of the newly-created Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame, which will open in March 2009, and honor the men and women who have played significant roles in all aspects of the Myrtle Beach area golf industry.
More than $18,000 raised by Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management for the 2008 Patriot Golf Day

More than $18,000 raised by Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management for the 2008 Patriot Golf Day

Myrtle Beach, SC – Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management participated in the second annual Patriot Golf Day, a joint initiative of The PGA of America, United States Golf Association and National Golf Course Owners Association. Guests at Farmstead Golf Links, The Resort Course at Grande Dunes, Members Club at Grande Dunes, Meadowlands Golf Club, Farmstead Golf Links, Myrtlewood Golf Club, Tidewater Golf Club, River Hills Country Club and golfers across the nation had the unique opportunity to donate to Wounded Warriors, Inc., which benefits the Fallen Heroes Foundation supporting families of those who have become disabled or lost their lives in the line of military duty. Golf facilities across the nation were asked to request an additional $1 for each green fee that is processed this past Labor Day weekend.
Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management, in an effort to provide even more support to this worthy cause, donated more than the requested contribution between August 30th and September 1st through fees and additional contests.
“This is a great way for the golf industry to help the families of our military heroes,” said Bob Swezey, Executive Vice President of Golf and Resort Operations. “This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone involved in the game of golf to give back to those who have given everything for us.”
B&C Golf Management’s efforts will have contributed $28,500 to the cause over the past two years. The amount raised this year at B&C golf courses during the Labor Day weekend along with contributions from Burroughs & Chapin Company totaled $18,000. Last year, B&C Golf Management donated $10,500, or approximately 1% of the total amount collected nationally.
Swezey also stated, “B&C’s golf division and our clients felt it was our duty to exceed what was asked by the initiative by not only accepting donations, but also contributing a larger dollar amount per player from the fees. The families of our fallen heroes cannot receive enough of our thanks for what they have gone through while protecting our freedom. The families of the men and women of the Armed Forces have gone far above and beyond to protect our freedoms and hopefully our donation is an indication of how much we care.”
Patriot Golf Day has been spearheaded by PGA Professional Dan Rooney of Stillwater, Okla. Rooney, an F-16 pilot in the 125th Fighter Squadron of the Oklahoma Air National Guard, has logged two tours of duty to Iraq, and following his most recent tour last year he began to think of ways he could stay involved in the war effort. Rooney is also in the process of establishing The Fallen Heroes Foundation, which will pay for the education of children who have lost a parent in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Wounded Warriors, Inc.’s mission is to provide support to the families of those who have been wounded, injured or killed during combat operations. The organization owns family-friendly resort condominiums in Orlando, Fla. and Galveston, Texas, where war-torn families can retreat to restore peace and solace to their lives after the trauma they have endured.
MYRTLEWOOD’S RICK SCHULTZ HONORED BY SOUTH CAROLINA GOLF COURSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION (SCGCOA)

Rick Schultz Named as the “South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association Tommy Cuthbert Employee of the Year” Award Winner

August 30, 2008, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Representatives from Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management announced today that Myrtlewood Golf Club general manager Rick Schultz was honored as the “2008 South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association Tommy Cuthbert Employee of the Year” by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association (SCGCOA).

This is the third year the “South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association Tommy Cuthbert Employee of the Year” award has been presented. The inaugural 2006 honor was presented to Tracy Conner, former general manager of Bay Tree Golf Plantation and awarded to John Farrell of Sea Pines Resort in 2007. The Employee of the Year award was named in memory of Tommy Cuthbert, the late Charleston golf director who was instrumental in helping revive golf in South Carolina after the 9/11 tragedy triggered an economic down cycle for the travel and tourism industries in the Palmetto State. Cuthbert passed away in June of 2006.

The South Carolina Board of Directors selected Schultz based on criteria established by the National and State Golf Course Owners Association that included exceptional quality of the course, exceptional quality of the management, outstanding contribution to the community and significant contribution to the game of golf. Schultz joined Myrtlewood Golf Club as a golf shop assistant in 1983 and soon became the director of golf operations before being promoted to general manager in 1995. He has played an integral role in Myrtlewood’s tournaments and special events division as the course has hosted 38 charity events which generated more than $500,000 in 2007. Schultz was previously recognized as the Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. “Employee of the Year” in both 1993 and 2005. The 2008 award marked his first Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association and South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association honor.

“I am honored to have been selected as the ‘2008 South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association Tommy Cuthbert Employee of the Year,’” said Schultz. “I must give credit to the entire team at Myrtlewood Golf Club from the maintenance employees who deliver a quality product on a consistent daily basis to the inside and outside operators who make the golfers’ experience at Myrtlewood enjoyable every time.”

“We are thrilled that Rick Schultz has been honored with this distinction,” said Bob Swezey, executive vice president of golf and resort operations for Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management. “Rick Schultz has been an integral member of our golf team and has made Myrtlewood one of the most popular golf courses in South Carolina.”

“The South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association is honored to name Rick Schultz as the ‘2008 South Carolina Golf Course Employee of the Year,’” said Rock Lucas, president of the SCGCOA. “It was no surprise to me that Rick Schultz was selected as the top employee in the state of South Carolina. He embodies the integrity and dedication that Tommy Cuthbert exhibited during his long tenure at Kiawah Island Resort."
MYRTLEWOOD’S RICK SCHULTZ HONORED BY SOUTH CAROLINA GOLF COURSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION (SCGCOA)

Rick Schultz Named as the “South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association Tommy Cuthbert Employee of the Year” Award Winner

August X, 2008, Myrtle Beach, S.C.

GRANDE DUNES RESORT CLUB HONORED BY SOUTH CAROLINA GOLF COURSE OWNERS ASSOCIATION (SCGCOA)

Grande Dunes Selected as “2008 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year”

August 30, 2008, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Representatives from Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management announced today that Grande Dunes Resort Club was selected as the “2008 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year” by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association (SCGCOA).

Grande Dunes is the seventh Grand Strand golf course to win since the state award was implemented in 1996. Past area courses to win include Burning Ridge – 2006; TPC – 2005; Wild Wing – 2002; Tradition Golf Club – 2000; Arrowhead Country Club - 1998 and King’s North at Myrtle Beach National – 1996. World Tour was named as the national “Golf Course of the Year” and is the only Grand Strand golf course to achieve that honor to date. Grande Dunes will compete against golf courses from across the country for the “National Golf Course Owners Association Golf Course of the Year” award.

To be considered for the “South Carolina Golf Course of the Year” award, a golf course must first win its regional Golf Course Owners Association title and then submit a presentation to the SCGOA Board. After capturing the “Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course of the Year” award, Grande Dunes advanced to the state level and competed against golf courses from the Upstate, Midlands, Charleston and Hilton Head regions.
The South Carolina Board of Directors selected Grande Dunes based on criteria established by the National and State Golf Course Owners Association that included exceptional quality of the
course, exceptional quality of the management, outstanding contribution to the community and significant contribution to the game of golf. The Grande Dunes Resort Club and Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management have helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charities including The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Conway Medical Center, Victory Junction Gang, Special Olympics and Patriot’s Golf Day. The Grande Dunes Resort Club is also committed to introducing the game to golfers of all ages through their active participation in Play Golf America and The First Tee of Myrtle Beach program.

“We are thrilled that Grande Dunes Resort Club was chosen as ‘South Carolina’s Golf Course of the Year,’” said Bob Swezey, executive vice president of golf and resort operations for Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management. “Winning this award is a tribute to the commitment, work ethic and sincerity by our Grande Dunes staff to deliver first-class service and amenities at an award-winning course.

“The South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association is honored to name Grande Dunes Resort Club as the ‘2008 South Carolina Golf Course of the Year,’” said Rock Lucas, president of the SCAGCOA. “Grande Dunes is an excellent representative of the quality of golf here in South Carolina. Grande Dunes faced strong competition from the South Carolina nominees but their heavy involvement in the Grand Strand community in addition to their contribution to the golf industry set them apart from the other courses.”
