BURROUGHS & CHAPIN GOLF MANAGEMENT RAISES $27,890 TO BENEFIT PATRIOT GOLF DAY
Nine B & C Golf Courses Hosted Fund Raisers for Military Families, September 4-7
September 25, 2009, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management announced today that $27,890 was raised during the third annual Patriot Golf Day event, which was held September 4 - 7 at Burroughs & Chapin golf courses. All proceeds will go to Folds of Honor Foundation, an organization that provides scholarship opportunities to the families of soldiers who have been injured or killed in the line of duty. Since the inception of the Patriot Golf Day event in 2007, Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management has raised $56,400 for the cause.
Nine Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management courses participated (Myrtlewood Golf Club, Pine Lakes Country Club, The Resort at Grande Dunes, The Members Club at Grande Dunes, Tidewater Golf Club & Plantation, Farmstead Golf Links, Meadowlands Golf Club, River Hills Golf & Country Club and Arcadian Shores Golf Club) and used many methods to help raise funds including donating $5 from every paid greens fee; rewarding each donation of $20 or more with a complimentary round; securing contributions from men and women’s member associations; hosting raffles at the course; and encouraging golfers to pay with American Express cards in order to earn American Express’s matching contributions.
Many golfers can say that they’ve played 36 holes in a day but to help raise money for Patriot Golf Day, seven B & C Golf Management golf professionals banded together to play as many holes as possible at The Members Club on Saturday, September 5. The professionals accepted pledges from the community and each played 100 holes from 6:00 a.m. until sundown.
"I am very proud of what our B & C Golf Management PGA professionals, our golfers and the Myrtle Beach community accomplished to honor the brave men and women who are serving our county in the United States military," said Mike Buccerone senior director for Grande Dunes and Pine Lakes Clubs and Amenities. “We’ve participated in the previous two Patriot Golf Day events but worked hard to make the 2009 Patriot Golf Day a bigger success.”

TIDEWATER GOLF CLUB & PLANTATION REOPENS FOR PLAY
One of Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses” Enjoys Minor Face Lift to Tee Boxes
August 11, 2009, North Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Representatives of Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management announced today that Tidewater Golf Club & Plantation is open and ready for play after a five-week renovation project to the 18-hole golf course. Reopened Saturday, August 1, the Tidewater renovation project concentrated on enlarging, leveling and resodding of all tee boxes; adding new sets of tees to enhance the playability and strategies of the design; pruning and removing trees on the course; installing Erosion Barrier Tubing on the 10th hole for erosion control and beautification; and installing added drainage in select fairways and greens to enhance turf health. During the project, the Tidewater grounds crew also intensified agronomic projects such as aerification, top-dressing and grooming of all turf grass areas.
“Tidewater is one of the most recognizable golf venue names when it comes to superb quality and service, as evidenced by the national awards we have received since opening nearly two decades ago,” said Chris Cooper, general manager of Tidewater Golf Club & Plantation. “One of our primary goals with this project was to build upon our well-established reputation and we are very pleased with what we were able to accomplish in only five weeks. These improvements will enhance the enjoyment derived by players for decades to come”
Designed by Ken Tomlinson, Tidewater opened in 1990 and has been called the “Pebble Beach of the East” by national golf media members. Measuring 7,078 yards from the championship tees, Tidewater offers views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway and the saltwater marshes of Cherry Grove Beach Inlet, and winds through dense forests accented by scenic hills, valleys, streams and lakes. Tidewater was recently named to Golf Digest’s 2009-2010 “America’s Top 100 Greatest Public Courses” ranking.

BRAD REDDING, GRANDE DUNES’ DIRECTOR OF INSTRUCTION, HELPS NEAL LANCASTER RECORD A TOP 25 FINISH IN THE BUICK OPEN
Redding One of GOLF Magazine’s Annual Honorees on its “Top 100 Teachers in America” Listing
August 4, 2009, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Neal Lancaster entered the fourth, and final, round of the Buick Open in a tie for 29th place. After recording respectable scores of 67, 70 and 70 in the first three rounds of the PGA TOUR event, held July 30 – August 2 at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan, Lancaster still needed a strong final outing to move into the top 25 and secure a spot in this week’s PGA TOUR event, the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open in Reno, Nevada.
A Smithfield, N.C. native and a member of the PGA TOUR since 1985, Lancaster had been working with Brad Redding, director of instruction at The Golf Academy at Grande Dunes, since the beginning of the 2009 PGA TOUR season. Lancaster contacted Redding by phone after his third round on Saturday, August 1st and after a 10-minute conversation, Lancaster went out on Sunday and shot a 69 to finish in a seven-way tie for 18th place, and qualified for the next PGA TOUR’s next tournament.
“Neal contacted me about six months ago after his friend recommended that he call,” said Redding. “He is a very talented player who had lost his way with too many swing thoughts and information overload from listening to so many different sources. During Saturday night’s phone call, he told me that he was missing his drives to the right and I instructed him that he needed to get the club more in front of him on the downswing. As a result ,the clubface would square up at impact to produce a slight draw. I am really proud of him and the progress we are making. I look forward to watching him compete in Reno this week.”
“Brad is a very talented golf instructor and has been great for my game,” said Lancaster. “He has cleaned up the troubles that I had in my golf swing. His instruction is sound and we are heading in the right direction. I now feel like I know what I am doing and what to work on in practice.”

MEMBERS CLUB AT GRANDE DUNES TURF EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN RECOGNIZED IN NATIONAL GOLF PUBLICATION FOR LATEST INVENTION
Joe Corsetti Develops Tow Bar to Save Groundskeepers Time and Money
July 16, 2009, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Joe Corsetti has always been the type of individual that figured out ways of saving time and money for his employer. In his role as the turf equipment technician at The Members Club at Grande Dunes, Corsetti’s latest break-through may benefit superintendents across the country while also realizing a financial windfall for himself.
Aerating the greens is a regular task for superintendents to keep golf course greens looking good and playing their best. Before Corsetti’s brainstorm, grounds crew workers had to walk the 1,300-pound aerator from the storage shed to each green, or load the aerator onto a trailer and drive from green to green. Corsetti developed a tow bar that can easily connect or disconnect the aerator to a utility vehicle, such as a John Deere Gator, and move from green to green, making the operator’s job much easier and more time efficient.
Corsetti spent less than four hours and $65 on materials while crafting his tow bar and already has a patent pending on the invention. Recognized in the June issue of Golf Course Industry magazine for his contribution to the golf industry, the Long Island, N.Y. native credits his background in mechanics to helping him come up with the idea.
“I spent my entire career in mechanical-type occupations and the tow bar concept came from that background,” explained Corsetti. “I worked on NASCAR pit crews and also towed heavy vehicles from 18-wheel trucks to airplanes for 40 years. In those jobs, you quickly realize that you have to work smarter, not necessarily harder, to get the job done. The tow bar has eliminated the task of walking the 1,300-pound aerator or loading the machine onto the trailer.”
“We thank Joe for the achievement of an idea that will increase the safety and health of staff and cut expenses at the same time,” said Bob Swezey, executive vice president of golf and resort operations for Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. “In times where we are all being asked to do more with less, Joe’s ‘outside the box’ invention demonstrates that when team members
are liberated or empowered to perform their duties as they know how, the entire team benefits because that link in the chain has become stronger.”

About Pine Lakes Country Club
Pine Lakes Country Club, Myrtle Beach’s first golf resort, has served as the epitome of the traditional golf resort since opening in 1927 as the Ocean Forest Golf Club. Designed by St. Andrews, Scotland native Robert White, Pine Lakes put Myrtle Beach on the map as the destination of choice for golfers and families. Pine Lakes Country Club is the birthplace of Sports Illustrated magazine after Time Inc. editors visited the club in 1954 to plan for their new weekly sports publication.
Owned and operated by Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc., Pine Lakes reopened March 14, 2009, after an extensive 20-month, $15 million restoration project that transformed the course and clubhouse back to the status enjoyed in earlier days. The restoration of the course was directed by well-known golf course architect Craig Schreiner who preserved many of the historical golf corridors that made Pine Lakes famous throughout the years. Pine Lakes Country Club is the home of the new Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame that honors those that helped build Myrtle Beach into the “Golf Capital of the World.” For more information, visit PineLakes.com

Each year, a Make-A-Wish family is selected from the state of South Carolina and is honored throughout the weekend. This year, the Make-A-Wish family is from Surfside and will participate in all of the activities held during the weekend.
On Friday, the four-member teams will register and play a practice round at Pine Lakes Country Club before attending a pairings party in the Pine Lakes ballroom. The first round of the tournament tees off Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at The Members Club. After golf, participants will attend the “Night When Wishes Come True Gala” at the Marriott at Grande Dunes.
On Sunday, the teams return to Pine Lakes for the second, and final, round of the tournament with the shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. The awards luncheon will be held at Pine Lakes after the conclusion of the tournament.
“We are excited to host the eighth annual Grande Dunes Pro-Celebrity Classic to Benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Carolina,” said Mike Buccerone, tournament director and the senior director of Grande Dunes and Pine Lakes clubs and amenities. “Even with the present economy, this event sold out again and we look forward to helping the Make-A-Wish of South Carolina grant wishes in 2009. We’d like to express a sincere thank you to the Myrtle Beach community and to our sponsors for their tremendous support.”
Buccerone, celebrities and participants will be available for interviews Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interviews can be scheduled by contacting Cheryl Harden at (843) 916-2000 on Friday or (843) 446-0584 on Saturday or Sunday.

TIDEWATER GOLF CLUB & PLANTATION TO BEGIN RENOVATION PROJECT JUNE 22
One of Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses” to Reopen August 1 June 8, 2009, North Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Representatives of Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. announced today that Tidewater Golf Club & Plantation will close Monday, June 22 as it begins a six-week renovation project to the golf course. The 18-hole facility, which is managed by Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management, will reopen Saturday, August 1. Myrtle Beach-based A.O. Hardee & Son, Inc. was selected as the general contractor, through a closed-sealed process. Senior director of golf course operations Randy Allen, a veteran of the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America, will supervise the project for Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management.
The renovations will concentrate on enlargening, leveling and resodding of all tee boxes; adding new sets of tees to enhance the playability and aesthetics; pruning and removing trees on the course; installing Erosion Barrier Tubing on the 10th hole for erosion control and beautification; and installing drain tile in select fairways and greens to enhance draining. While the project is underway, the Tidewater grounds crew will focus on intensified agronomic projects such as aerification, top-dressing and grooming of all turf grass areas.
“Our primary focus with this renovation project is to upgrade the tee boxes so that they complement the stature of the course,“ said Bob Swezey executive vice president for Burroughs & Chapin Golf and Resorts Division. “Tidewater is a spectacular venue but the tee box complexes have been utilized for decades and need renovation after years of wear and tear. There is never a good time to close a course for renovations but we wanted to address some areas and have the entire course in superb condition, as it deserves.”

MYRTLE BEACH , S.C. - Myrtle Beach may be one of golf's busiest locales, host to more than 4 million rounds annually. But at the Grande Dunes resort's Members Club and its Marina Inn hotel you'll find a golf course that's more exclusive country club than bustling resort.
Even golfers who come to Myrtle Beach each year may have never heard of the Members Club, hiding in the shadows of the older Resort Club set atop the banks of the Intracoastal Waterway.
Other golfers might not even look into a tee time, assuming there is no public play. True, it's a private golf club, but with one big exception: Guests of the Marina Inn are welcome to play throughout their stay.
Tucked into the back corner of the Grande Dunes' 2,200-acre property, the Members Club doesn't boast the sheer bravado of the more famous, daily-fee Resort Course, which offers six tees and stretches over 7,600 yards, plus several jaw-dropping holes along the waterway.
The Members Club's beauty, on the other hand, is in the subtleties and charming ambiance of this sanctuary. You won't get the waterway views, but you'll get tons of wide-open space to hit away and enjoy golf at your own pace.
The golf course opened in 2005 and was designed by Nick Price and Craig Schreiner (who also oversaw the Pine Lakes Country Club restoration). Price wanted the course to have a South African feel, which comes through especially on the ninth and 18th holes, both of which wrap around a large pond dotted with little islands.
The fairways are tumbling, the bunkering deep and plentiful. The massive, bent grass greens take on a life of their own. They're lightning fast and feature subtle breaks and false fronts, rather than the tiers and shelves on the Resort Course.
The course's perch on relative high ground is also susceptible to South Africa-like winds, giving its modest championship yardage of just over 7,000 yards more teeth.
"When the wind is five miles an hour around Myrtle Beach, it feels like 15 miles on this course for some reason," noted my caddie Mike Boaz on a February afternoon.
And along these rolling, often firm fairways, there's even a bonafide "Member's Bounce," on the 225-yard par-3 13th hole. With a front pin position, take your wood or long iron and play for the front left side; let the ball do the rest.
"I've seen at least a dozen shots come to within a foot or so of the flag," said Boaz. "So long as you land it a little short and left, the ball should trickle its way down to the hole."
Guests are treated like members here, with access to the locker room and dining facilities. It's a no-cash club, even for guests, so a little black card is your passport to all your food, drink and equipment needs. And you won't have to worry about falling out of place on the tee sheet should your halfway house quickie bite to eat turn into a couple of drinks.
The Marina Inn at Grande Dunes
One of Myrtle Beach's newest luxury hotels, the Mediterranean-inspired Marina Inn at Grande Dunes is right along the waterway. Often, passing ships pull into port for dinner at the resort's Waterscapes or the new Ruth's Chris Steak House on the water.
And although it's a waterway property, beach bums shouldn't blow this property over. Free shuttles escort guests from the resort to a private cabana on the beach just a short drive away.
Guest rooms start at one-bedroom, with certain floor plans offering full kitchens. For larger groups, there are two and three-bedroom villas with full kitchens, two or three baths and terraces overlooking the waterway. Guests can order a variety of in-room spa treatments.
Golf packages at Grande Dunes' Marina Inn
Amid the many amenities and services you'd expect from a AAA four-diamond hotel, you'll have access to a concierge who can assist in planning your golf.
Or set up your golf vacation package in advance. The Marina Inn offers a collection of exclusive packages that couple both the Resort Course and the Members Club. You'll also have free use of the practice facilities with select packages.
One particularly appealing package is the brand new "Grande Trio," which offers golf at the Resort Course, the Members Course and Pine Lakes Country Club, Myrtle Beach's oldest golf club, dating back to the roaring 20s, and showing off a brand new look after extensive renovations. This package offers a taste of three of the top golf courses in Myrtle Beach.
