Grande Dunes’ MIKE BUCCERONE and BRAD REDDING Take Top Carolinas PGA Honors!
(Information Taken from a Carolinas PGA News Release)
Each year, the Carolinas PGA invites nominations for its Section Awards from its 2,000 Members across the Carolinas. In 2007, the Carolinas PGA recognizes 10 Section Members for excelling in their fields of expertise while demonstrating a strong dedication and commitment to the game of golf throughout the year. The awards will be officially presented at the Carolinas PGA Awards & Honors ceremony, to be held in February 2008 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
“These awards exemplify the qualities and innovation PGA Golf Professionals aspire to not only in the Carolinas, but from coast to coast,” said Ron Schmid, Executive Director of the Carolinas PGA. “The quality of candidates made for some difficult choices, and all nominees should be proud of their achievements.”
Three Carolinas PGA members received Merchandiser of the Year honors in separate categories. This award recognizes superior skills as merchandisers in the promotion of golf and excellence in golf shop operations. Criteria include number of rounds played versus gross merchandise sales, and merchandising philosophy. Each recipient seeks out and employs innovative ways to service their customers to the best of their abilities.
MIKE BUCCERONE, PGA, of the Resort Club at Grande Dunes was honored as Merchandiser of the Year in the Resort category. During Mike’s tenure, the golf shop at Grande Dunes has seen gross merchandise sales increase each year. Mike credits this success to following a simple philosophy— Merchandise does not sell itself. We need to recognize what our guests need and buy accordingly.
"On behalf of the Grande Dunes staff, we are all very excited about this award,” Mike said. “Our team continues to work very hard in upholding the club's vision and we are all very excited to share in this great honor.”
BRAD REDDING, PGA, of the Resort Club at Dunes Golf Club received the Teacher of the Year honor recognizing him as the top teacher in the Carolinas Section. Brad is very active in the promotion of golf to adults and juniors, and has been named a Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher in America since 2001. Additionally, Brad is a PGA Master Professional in Instruction and serves as a faculty member of the PGA Certified Program in Instruction. He has written many articles for numerous national golf publications and has been a frequent guest on Peter Kessler’s XM Satellite Radio show, Pure Golf.
###
“I am blessed to be at a fine facility like Grande Dunes and have such a great support team that makes teaching such a rewarding and exciting endeavor,” Brad said. “I must thank all the people who have helped me along the way – Jim Vaughan, Hank Haney, all my students and most importantly my wife Kimberly and son Miller.”

More than $10,500 raised by Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management for the First Patriot Golf Day
Contributions to support families of Fallen Heroes
Myrtle Beach, SC – Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management participated in the nation’s first Patriot Golf Day, a joint initiative of The PGA of America and the United States Golf Association. Guests at Farmstead Golf Links, The Resort Course at Grande Dunes, Meadowlands Golf Club, Myrtlewood Golf Club, Tidewater Golf Club and golfers across the nation had the unique opportunity to donate to Wounded Warriors, Inc., which benefits the Fallen Heroes Foundation supporting families of those who have become disabled or lost their lives in the line of military duty. Golf facilities across the nation have been asked to request an additional $1 for each green fee that is processed on September 1st, 2007.
Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management, in an effort to provide even more support to this worthy cause, donated $5 for each walk-in AM or PM green fee that was processed between August 31st and September 3rd. In addition, each donating golfer was given a Ballzee golf ball cleaner. B&C’s fundraising efforts began during the PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship during the daily 19th Hole reception at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday provided Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management with a booth to promote Patriot Golf Day and begin collecting donations.
“This was a great way for the golf industry to help the families of our military heroes,” said Archie Lemon, Director of Golf Operations of Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management. “This is a wonderful opportunity for golfers, golf professionals and golf facilities to give back to those who have given everything.”
The amount raised at B&C golf courses during the Labor Day weekend, during the World Amateur tournament and contributions from Burroughs & Chapin Company totaled $10,560.
Lemon also stated, “B&C’s golf division felt it necessary to go above and beyond what the PGA was asking by not only accepting donations on September 1, but throughout the Labor Day weekend and during the largest amateur golf tournament in the world. The families of our fallen heroes cannot receive enough for what they have gone through while protecting our freedom. They, themselves, have gone above and beyond and hopefully our donation is an indication of how much we care.”
Patriot Golf Day was spearheaded by PGA Professional Dan Rooney of Stillwater, Okla. Rooney, an F-16 pilot in the 125th Fighter Squadron of the Oklahoma Air National Guard, has logged two tours of duty to Iraq, and following his most recent tour he began to think of ways he could stay involved in the war effort. Rooney is also in the process of establishing The Fallen Heroes Foundation, which will pay for the education of children who have lost a parent in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Wounded Warriors, Inc.’s mission is to provide support to the families of those who have been wounded, injured or killed during combat operations. The organization owns family-friendly resort condominiums in Orlando, Fla. and Galveston, Texas, where war-torn families can retreat to restore peace and solace to their lives after the trauma they have endured.

Meadowlands has also been recognized as the #1 “Hidden Gem” on Golf Tips travel list of “Myrtle Beach’s Top 5s.” The recognition appeared in the annual release, which highlights what editors consider to be the best of the best throughout the world.
With a formidable history of success in farming and infrastructure construction, the McLamb family developed Meadowlands Golf Club as part of a planned residential community on property owned by the family for generations. Throughout the past ten years, the success of the real estate community has been equally served by the success of the golf course. The first of two courses developed by the McLamb family, Meadowlands has established itself within the Grand Strand golf community with locals and visitors alike. With a strong membership base as well as golf packaging outlet, today, Meadowlands Golf Club is considered one of Myrtle Beach’s “must play” courses due to its reputation for quality playing conditions and excellent customer service levels.
“With the abundance of competitive golf along the Grand Strand, Meadowlands has endured the past decade by building on the basic principles of a quality product and first-rate services,” said W.J. McLamb, owner/developer of Meadowlands Golf Club. “Meadowlands is a very steady, friendly and comfortable Coastal Carolina golf course and our family is thrilled with its success.”
In 2002, the McLamb family contracted with Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management to oversee golf operations on their behalf including accounting, information technology, administration, golf course maintenance operations, food and beverage operations, sales and marketing, customer service excellence, a national vendor account program oriented toward volume purchasing, and more.
Bob Swezey, executive vice president of golf operations for Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management stated, “Our golf management division strives to provide excellence and a diversified golf experience and Meadowlands enhances our ability to offer golfers the highest level of quality and value.”
The McLamb family and Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management have worked together with a focus on golf course conditions, customer service levels, sales and marketing as well as financial stability within a highly competitive market. With this focused strategy other opportunities for development, growth and improvement have arisen.
Most recently, Meadowlands experienced a bunker renovation project during the summer of 2007. With continued emphasis on golf course playing conditions, an investment of $300,000 was dedicated to this 30-day project. The renovation project was minimally intrusive to play therefore allowing play on the golf course to continue. This project along with the dedication of the ownership and management allows Meadowlands to continue to maintain a championship grade.
Meadowlands sister course, Farmstead Golf Links, also a Willard Byrd and David Johnson design, opened in 2001 and is situated in a natural setting, formerly a tobacco farm, comfortably removed from developed areas that afford golfers the luxury of playing in almost perfect privacy. Farmstead is most notably recognized for its finishing hole, the only par 6 along the Grand Strand, where you tee off in South Carolina and put out in North Carolina.

Contributions Will Support Families of Fallen Heroes
Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management will participate in the nation’s first Patriot Golf Day, a joint initiative of The PGA of America and the United States Golf Association. Golfers across the country and at Farmstead Golf Links, The Resort Course at Grande Dunes, Meadowlands Golf Club, Myrtlewood Golf Club and Tidewater Golf Club will have the unique opportunity to donate to Wounded Warriors, Inc., which benefits the Fallen Heroes Foundation to support families of those who have become disabled or lost their lives in the line of military duty. Golf facilities across the nation have been asked to request an additional $1 for each green fee that is processed on September 1st, 2007.
In support of this cause, Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management will donate $5 for each walk-in A.M. or P.M. green fee that is processed on August 31, September 1, 2 and 3. In addition, each golfer will be given a Ballzee golf ball cleaner while supplies last. The fundraising efforts will kick off during the PGA Tour Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship’s 19th Hole at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Monday, August 27th through Thursday, August 30th, Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management will have a booth set up to promote Patriot Golf Day and begin collecting donations.
“This is a great way for the golf industry to help the families of our military heroes,” said Archie Lemon, Director of Golf Operations for Burroughs & Chapin Golf Management. “This is a wonderful opportunity for golfers in our community to give back to those who have given everything.”
Patriot Golf Day is spearheaded by PGA Professional Dan Rooney of Stillwater, Okla. Rooney, an F-16 pilot in the 125th Fighter Squadron of the Oklahoma Air National Guard, has logged two tours of duty to Iraq and, following his most recent tour, he began to think of ways he could stay involved in the war effort.
The organization owns familyfriendly resort condominiums in Orlando, Fla. and Galveston, Texas, where war-torn families can retreat to restore peace and solace to their lives after the trauma they have endured.

Grande Dunes Resort Course and Tidewater Golf Club Add ProLink GPS System
Myrtle Beach, SC – Burroughs & Chapin Company's Golf Management division has chosen to install the ProLink Solutions GPS system at Grande Dunes Resort Course and Tidewater Golf Club. ProLink is used at many of the world's most famous golf courses and is the leading provider of Global Positioning Satellite ("GPS") golf course management systems and digital out-of-home on-course advertising.
Grande Dunes is a design by the Roger Rulewich Group that borders the Intracoastal Waterway and is considered the longest course in Myrtle Beach. Upon opening in 2001, Grande Dunes was honored as a “Top 10 Course You Can Play” in America by Golf Magazine. Since then, Grande Dunes has continued to excel in its reputation for quality conditioning, excellent service and national accolades like “Top 100 in South Carolina” and “America’s Best Public Courses”.
“Our course can present quite a challenge, so ProLink's yardages, tips and hole maps make it a great tool for golfers," said Mike Buccerone, General Manager of Grande Dunes. "The system improves pace-of-play noticeably and simplifies cart monitoring and maintenance.”
Often called the “Pebble Beach of the East,” Tidewater Golf Club has received numerous accolades for its scenic beauty and challenging design. Over the years, as the course has matured, it has continued to earn national recognition, as well as the praise of both golf writers and players. Tidewater is on Golf Magazine’s prestigious listing of “Top 100 Places You Can Play” in the United States and is still the only course to have been ranked by both Golf Magazine and Golf Digest as the "Best New Public Golf Course in America" when it opened.
According to Chris Cooper, General Manager of Tidewater, “The on-course food and beverage ordering system has been a huge success. This is a fabulous service for our guests and we've already seen a number of orders for pick-up at the turn thanks to the on-screen ordering function.”
With ProLink's patented, 10.4" high-resolution color screen -- the industry's largest -- Grande Dunes' and Tidewater’s cart-mounted units display dynamic, easy- to-read graphics including distances to the pin and hazards, pro tips, pace- of-play timer and radial arc for cart-path-only holes. Golfers at Grande Dunes and Tidewater will also be able to order food and beverage items with a touch of a button on the ProLink screen.
